What's in a coach? by Nthabiseng Monoge

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

I’ve been out of shape physically since about June.

Who can resist Winter’s hearty food and couch-bound cozy days? Certainly not me.

Secondly, to recover from Winter, I tried Keto, which turned out to be a terrible idea, this evidenced by the 3.5 kg's I gained

Lastly, I turned 40 yo’ll. In my younger years I was obsessed with being perfect. Alas! Now, my priority is to be happy, healthy and financially free. Lean, cellulite-free thighs are no longer at the top of my priority list. My overall wellness is now at centre stage. It’s been an easy toss-up. Run 5km’s through my neighbourhood at the risk of being chased by a neighbour’s dog OR have a picnic in the garden. I choose the picnic. Show of hands if you would choose the Fear Factor instead.

For the past 3 months or so, I have been “trying” to achieve my fitness goal. Every Monday, I start afresh. I watch the latest YouTube video on fat burning; I eat 3 fruits and 3.5 portions of vegetables a day and I keep the hell away from the confectionery fridge at the local grocery shop. I do this for 2 days and on day 3, I eat a couple of biscuits in the office, ice cream with the kids and soon I convince myself that I might as well stop everything and start again next week Monday.

Months into my futile attempt at getting back into shape I had an epiphany. I-NEEDED-HELP! I needed help because I had ‘wasted’ 3 months of the year trying to implement a plan that had not been thought through. I needed help because watching random, generic YouTube videos and googling slimming meal-plans -was a start yes- but this self-created plan did not consider

1. my favourite foods

2. my interests

3. my working hours

4. my weight and height

5. my daily routine and

6. my personal fitness goals

My plan was weak. It was unsustainable. It did nothing in addressing my mindset at the time. At that moment, I felt guilty and disempowered because as a semi-vegetarian and an ex-athlete, surely, I should know better! I should be doing better! But I wasn’t. I was stuck, unmotivated, inconsistent and in need of professional help… I made the call! I reached out to a personal trainer- a fitness COACH.

Most of us know which professionals can help us with the different areas of our well-being. Do you need help with physical wellness like I did? There’s a Fitness coach for that.

Struggling with Spiritual wellness? We see a Pastor, a Sangoma, a Clairvoyant. Struggling with Social wellness? We visit a Relationship Coach or our Local Bartender (not recommended 😊). What about financial wellness? This dimension of our wellness is too often left to our employers; the credit bureaus; societal pressure; mashonisas and the banks. Most of us don’t know that a Money Coach serves the same purpose for our finances... as a personal trainer serves for my soon-to- be killer body.

Asking for help doesn't make you a failure. It makes you a winner.

That’s what a Money Coach like me does. I create step by step plans for you and your money. I host intimate classes and workshops to teach and motivate people about achieving their financial goals. I help my clients achieve their own financial happy place.

Let’s create a society that doesn’t suffer alone and in silence. We can do it! One call to a professional at a time.

Yours in Goal-digging,

Nthabi
